Place of origin:  Peru, Brazil.

 

 

This flowering plant is typically found on the floor of primary rainforest. It is named after the German explorer E.F. Poeppig who discovered it in the 19th century.

The bottom of the leaf is purple, the top is a deep green with stripes. It is commonly named ´Seersucker´ as the surface as a whole has a puckered appearance resembling the puckering of seersucker fabric.
